Or when a fortified castle is built before our eyes following the methods of the 13th century. A construction site... unique in the world!
In 1997, Michel Guyot (the owner of the Château de Saint-Fargeau) took the crazy gamble of building a fortified castle in the middle of the Poyaudine countryside. His specifications? Scrupulously follow the methods of the 13th century, and take advantage of this remarkable natural space to draw the raw materials necessary for construction (stone, wood, earth, sand, clay...). Nearly 25 years later, work continues and Guédelon has become a scientific, historical, educational, tourist and human construction site. And above all unique in the world! Quarrymen, stonemasons, masons, lumberjacks, carpenters, blacksmiths, tilers, carters and tailors build there on a daily basis (and in period costumes) while interacting with visitors. Coming and returning to Guédelon also means having the privilege of following the progress of the work year after year: the fortified enclosure, the dwelling and its roofing framework, the bedroom and its murals, the shooting galleries and their warhead vaults, the parapet walk... Or how to immerse yourself in the life of the Middle Ages, magnificently reconstructed, in particular thanks to its mill built with the Inrap in a process of experimental archaeology. With all these strong points, it is not surprising that Guédelon has become the most visited tourist spot in the department, the second most visited in Burgundy (after the Hospices de Beaune)! Count 4 to 6 hours to make the most of the visit. Note that you can also eat there (by ordering your picnic basket, for example!).

Les ouvriers et le personnel sont accueillants.

Nous avons découvert beaucoup de choses sur la construction d'un château.
Il est agréable de flâner et de discuter ça et là avec les ouvriers qui construisent ce château. Nous y retournerons pour découvrir l'avancée des travaux.
autrement ...... finalement pas grand chose à voir si on ne suit pas la visite guidée. Cela donne au final l'impression d'un parc d'attraction sur le thème du moyen âge.
très mal indiqué depuis Auxerre.... Il faut vraiment améliorer ce point d'autant que le site est au milieu de nulle part
prévoir absolumment les bottes.
Restauration "d'époque" sur place proposée sous des carbets ouverts : avec le froid, la pluie et la boue, j'ai pas adoré......
