Museum housed in old cellars, with a large collection of antique tools showing the winemaker's daily work

Housed in the former cellars of Domaine Alain Geoffroy, this museum represents years of collecting, carried out by Alain Geoffroy himself. Passionate about his craft and an inveterate collector, he has amassed over 8,000 objects (including at least 4,000 corkscrews, each more original than the last) from France, Italy, Germany and the United States. Zig-zag and Thomason rub shoulders with the knotted corkscrew and many others. In addition, there's a wide range of antique tools showing the winemaker's daily work. Last but not least, a number of fine silver taste-vins complete this very interesting museum. THE TASTING CELLAR IS FULLY ACCESSIBLE FOR PEOPLE WITH REDUCED MOBILITY. THE MUSEUM, PARTIALLY. THE FIRST FLOOR, HOWEVER, IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE VIA A STAIRCASE. FREE PARKING NEARBY.

Very pleasant 1st stop of our visit to Chablis wine experience. We were warmly greeted by Agnes, who has worked there for 5+ years. Collected 3.5 euro per person to enter the museum that comes with wine tasting at the end of the visit. You will find your eyes wondering through 8 rooms filled with thousands of wine related items that the owner had passionately collected from all over the world. We were given a brochure that highlighted a handful of specially numbered items for more info. Very impressive and respectable collection. At the end of tour, Agnes was ready with 5 bottles of chablis for us to wine taste. She was such a wonderful host and gave us a great intro to their wine. We bought only 2.5 bottles because we didn't know what is the limit we can bring back to the USA. Now that I have gone through US customs and asked, I was told people can bring as many bottles in their checked luggage if it's for personal consumption, it is fine. I wish I had bought more bottles! They also have promotional sale right now for the other wines we did not taste. Thank you for the very nice visit, I highly recommend this place!
