Museum presenting the history of the Avallonnais through various works and collections from the excavations of the Arcy caves.

The history of the Avallonnais is presented here through works such as those of the sculptors Loiseau-Bailly and Vigoureux. Or pieces by the goldsmith Després (well represented in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris and originally from Avallon), as well as amazing collections from the excavations carried out in the caves of Arcy-sur-Cure. The team of the Musée de l'Avallonnais tends towards the democratization of heritage, and knows perfectly well how to make its collections come alive. A little extra : regularly exhibitions of contemporary artists are organized.

Opening time and information on MUSÉE DE L’AVALLONNAIS

Closed from November to early February. April to the end of September: open every day except Tuesday during school vacations, 2-6pm. Otherwise, every weekend and public holidays. Free until 18 years old (and on Wednesdays). Adults : 3 € (reduced : 1,50 €). Guided tour : 5 €. Groups and animations for children on reservation. Finally, on presentation of the entrance ticket, you can benefit from a reduced rate in the partner museums of the region (list on the website). The ground floor is accessible to wheelchairs. Guided tour (5 €, on reservation). Animations.

Un beau petit musée.

Musée diversifié, avec des collections archéologiques et antiques, mais surtout ne pas manquer la partie dédiée au peuple Yao (à l'étage) avec des collections rares et splendides de bijoux, vêtements, rouleaux calligraphiés... Et aussi la partie dédiée à la joaillerie au rez-de-chaussée.

Musée fort intéressant et très éclectique dans ses collections: statues greco-romaines, archéologie, peintures, et actuellement superbe exposition des œuvres de Jean Despres, célèbre orfèvre Avallonnais, pieces des années 30-50. A voir absolument.
