PARC NATUREL RÉGIONAL DE LA VALLÉE DE TUA
Ideal for getting off the beaten track, the Tua Valley Regional Nature Park extends over 25,000 hectares between the districts of Vila Real and Bragança. For hikers, this is an opportunity to cover over thirty different routes, from Foz do Tua in the south of the park, where the river of the same name flows into the Douro, to Mirandela in the north. Good walkers will enjoy routes with steep ascents and descents, while beginners and children will enjoy walks such as the one to the Santa Bárbara viewpoint, which takes less than an hour. What all these trails have in common is their majestic scenery, with views that blend the blue of the rivers with the green of the hills where vines and almond trees grow. Deep valleys and plateaus shelter sleepy villages where time seems suspended. You can walk along an old railroad line that has been abandoned since the construction of a dam. Built under perilous conditions through granite gorges in 1887, it ran 134 kilometers from Foz do Tua to Bragança. In addition to its flora and fauna, the park also offers visitors the chance to observe the celestial vault in exceptional conditions from the Palheiros hill or the beach of the Frechas river.
