Located on a square in the center of town, this statue pays tribute to Fernand de Magellan (Fernão de Magalhães), a Portuguese navigator from Sabrosa. He is credited with leading the Spanish expedition of 1519-1522, which resulted in the first circumnavigation of the globe, although he died before the voyage was completed. Here you can see the great Portuguese explorer standing, scanning the horizon, true to his thirst for discovery.
