The Sri Aman division lies between Kuching and Betong to the east. It is mainly inhabited by the Iban people, but also includes Malays and Chinese. Sri Aman is a small town established on the banks of the Batang Lupar River by Rajah Brooke in 1849. The ancient Simanggang was a bulwark against the expansion of the Iban people. Today, the town serves mainly as a gateway to Batang Ai National Park, but is also known for its typical jungle market. Cafés and restaurants provide an ideal place to take a break on the road between Kuching and Batang Ai.
