14 km from Puri. A village where each inhabitant is a craftsman and each house a workshop. Traditional masks, wooden toys, papier-mâché objects are made here... but the local specialty is Pattachitra painting, an art dating back to the5th century BC. On a preparation made of a cloth (patta), or a dried palm leaf, coated with a mixture of chalk and rubber resin, are made colorful and sophisticated paintings of deities, decorated with trees and animals. Nice walks in the surroundings are possible. The place, although very touristy, is definitely worth a visit.
