Pioneer of distillation in Mauritius and the largest producer on the island, Grays is at the origin of New Grove rum. The latter is the result of a rich heritage that dates back to the time of Mahé de La Bourdonnais and the construction of the first sugar mill on the island in 1739, to which the first distillery was attached in 1742 on the Villebague estate. The plantation belongs to Grays, which produces a 100% natural rum, honored in 2021 by the highest award, that of the best rum in the world for the fifty year old Emotion-Single Estate .
