MEDIEVAL NECROPOLIS OF MACULJE

Located at 998 m above sea level, this site (Nekropola sa Stećcima Maculje) is one of the 22 medieval necropolises in the country that were classified as Unesco World Heritage Sites in 2016. It houses 101 stećci that date back to the 15th century, only one of which is decorated with a bas-relief evoking an "apple" or a circle. In addition, the site contains 16 anthropomorphic cruciform stelae from the 18th century decorated mostly with crosses and crescent moons, also with an "apple" motif.
