FORTERESSE DE BISTRICA

Located on the Crvenica cliffs, this ancient fortified town (Bistrički Grad) offers a beautiful panorama of the charchia and Livno polje. It was founded in the 9th century following the uneven terrain on 37.5 m length and 30 m width. Reinforced by the Ottomans, it became the seat of the Livno captaincy, with a warehouse, four bastions, five towers and a garrison that numbered up to 600 soldiers and 15 cannons pointed at the polje. Abandoned after 1878, it still has two towers called the Big Tower (Velika Kula) and the Small Tower (Mala Kula).
