POLJÉ DE GACKO
Karst plain between Gacko and Montenegro, crossed by the R432 road. Landscape dotted with dolines (circular cavities).
This karst plain (Gatačko Polje/Гатачко поље) stretches 24 km in length between the Gacko lignite mines to the northwest and Montenegro to the southeast. On average 3.6 km wide and studded with dolines (circular cavities), it is crossed by two partly underground rivers, the Gračanica and the Mušnica, which feed the Trebišnjica that flows through Trebinje. You can follow the R432 through Avtovac and Dobrelji to the Krstac/Крстац border crossing. The polje was the scene of a battle between the Serbian king Uroš and his son Dragutin in 1276.
