MOSQUÉE DE PRIDVORICA

Isolated at 900 m above sea level in the upper Neretva valley and below Mount Javorje (1,778 m), this mosque (Džamija Pridvorica/Придворица Џамија) forms a beautiful ensemble with its small minaret, slate roof, walled enclosure, and a necropolis of stećci. Erected in 2018, it is a replica of the 19th-century one that was destroyed by Bosnian-Serb forces in 1993. As for the village of Pridvorica, it is abandoned: the Bosnian-Serb population was massacred by Bosnians in 1942. Not far away, a Serbian Orthodox monastery is under construction.
