An Ottoman-period castle atop a mountain with a pleasant view, especially at sunset.

Shamsan Castle dates back to the Ottoman period. Major renovation work was undertaken in 2021 to restore the stone walls of this august fortress to some of its splendor. Set on top of a mountain overlooking the city, the castle is a very pleasant viewpoint, especially at sunset. The esplanade surrounding the wall and its three towers has been cleared and paved. It is a great place for picnics in the cool of the evening.
