KEF ENNSOURA
Culminating at 713 meters above sea level, Kef Ennsoura (word for eagle's nest) is the highest place not only of the Dahar, but also of all the south-east of Tunisia. This altitude offers a superb view on the whole plateau of Dahar and the Gulf of Gabes. Due to the effect of altitude and the maritime influence of the Gulf of Gabes, Kef Ennsoura is marked by a relatively humid microclimate (220 millimeters of rain per year on average), unlike the rest of Dahar particularly arid. Its flora is thus specifically rich: we find there juniper shrubs and rosemary forming a low or medium scrubland, in places quite dense, offering a unique landscape in the mountains of Dahar. As for the fauna, hikers will be able to see here golden eagles, hoopoes and many desert birds (sirli, gangas, or other owls...). This site is a paradise for ornithologists! As for history, Kef Ennsoura played an important role in the battle of the Mareth Line during the Tunisian campaign of the Second World War. The site conceals various military installations still in perfect state of conservation with notably trenches, walls, rooms with armored doors, locations of DCA... Whether it is for hikers, nature lovers or heritage, a hike on the side of Kef Ennsoura will not leave anyone indifferent!
