Just before Porter Pass, Porter Ski Area is the last ski resort in the Craigieburn Ranges. Only 96 km from Christchurch, this excellent spot has a relatively good access road. The highest peak is at 1,980 m for a vertical drop of 670 m, on 230 hectares served by 5 lifts. The Big Mama is the longest run in the southern hemisphere (720 m) and Bluff Face is the steepest in New Zealand. Some runs are reserved for snowboarders. Equipment rental on site. Unpaved access road and tolls.
