Abiquiú was first settled in 1742 by 24 Tewa Pueblo families led by a Roman Catholic priest, Francisco Delgado. Abiquiú was also the starting point of the pioneer Old Spanish Trail. There is little to do in Abiquiú except to take advantage of your visit to the natural site of Plaza Blanca and to visit one of the houses of the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. That said, it is a beautiful village, with only a little over 200 inhabitants, perched on top of a hill. The Santo Tomás de Abiquiú church is very beautiful. For those looking for peace and quiet, this is a good place to stay.
