This historic site of Jemez preserves the archaeological remains of Gíusewa Pueblo
This historic site in Jemez preserves the archaeological remains of Gíusewa Pueblo, a 16th century Native American village. The village of Giusewa was built in the narrow San Diego Canyon by the ancestors of today's Jemez Pueblo (Walatowa) residents. The name Giusewa refers to the local natural springs. In the heart of the area, you will have the opportunity to visit a kiva (circular ceremonial room) as well as San Jose de los Jemez, a 17th century Spanish colonial mission. Inside the Visitor Center, you will get more information.
