The Tatacoa desert is not a real desert, but it is just like it! This semi-arid tropical dry forest of 330 km² is the second most arid area of Colombia, after the desert of La Guajira. A site of spectacular beauty: you would think you were in Lucky Luke's Wild West, or in Tupiza, south of Bolivia. The Tatacoa is divided in two main zones, the sector of Cuzco with soils in the majority red tones, and the sector of Los Hoyos, in the soils in the rather gray tones. It is easy to get there by tuk-tuk from the main square of Villavieja.
