PASTORATE - RECTORY

The Van Gogh family lived here between 1882 and 1885 and Vincent lived here between December 1883 and May 1884. The house was built in 1764 by the municipality, which was obliged to provide housing for the pastor of the Reformed church. Vincent had his first studio behind the workshop, which can be seen by taking the path to the left of the house. Note the beautiful and large garden behind. Van Gogh painted this place several times. It is a famous and well-to-do place which contrasts with the often miserable image Van Gogh has spread.
