A popular mosque featuring Byzantine and Umayyad styles and a beautiful carved wooden mihrab.
This large, immaculately white mosque is one of the capital's religious landmarks. It's one of the busiest in the city and, despite its imposing size, it can't hold all the worshippers during Ramadan. Pergolas and prayer mats are then installed in the courtyard. With its large dome and pointed arches, it blends Byzantine and Umayyad styles. Its wooden mihrab, carved with geometric motifs, is a thing of beauty.
