CAP KORMAKITIS

This cape (Koruçam Burnu, Ακρωτήριο Κορμακίτη/Akrotirio Kormakiti) is the closest point to Turkey, 60 km to the north. With its windswept desolate landscape, rusting transmission relay and lighthouse ruins, it's little visited. Surrounded by sharp rocks and beaches where large rollers pour in, the tip of the cape extends to the islet of Kormakitis. Bordered to the west by Morphou Bay and to the north by the Kyrenia coast, the cape marks the start of the 255 km Beşparmak Trail to Cape St. Andrew.
