Northern section of Great Salt Lake, transformed into a unique work of art by sculptor Robert Smithson
Using 6,000 tons of basalt - a black volcanic magmatic rock - sculptor Robert Smithson has transformed a section of the northern part of Great Salt Lake into a unique work of art: a spiral measuring more than 450 m in length and 4.5 m in width. The last 25 km to the Spiral Jetty is a trail that can be difficult to navigate. Also, remember to bring enough water, as temperatures can rise considerably during the summer.
