Hopkinsville is a small town of 30 000 inhabitants to miles east of Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. The city centre offers little animation but it can be stopped to photograph the beautiful murals at 9 th Street and Main Street. The city (9 th Street) is on one of the routes of Trail of Tears, the name given to the long exodus imposed on the Cherokee people (among others), southeast Appalachians in the present Oklahoma, in the 1830 s. In the Cherokee Trail Of Tears Patrol Park, the graves of two chiefs Cherokee (Fly Smith and Whitepath) died during their deportation and several monuments. Every year, in September, a great Pow-wow (Trail of Tears Pow-wow) gathered on the site several thousand Amerindians during 2 days of festivities.
