A manor house of numerous governors and archbishops of Tarragona, this castle was probably built in the th century. He became a property of the city in the th century because of the laws of confiscation of the Church's property (the Spanish désamortissement). Today it has been completely restored and converted into a cultural centre hosting a permanent exhibition on the history of the castle, as well as temporary exhibitions.
