Founded in 1531, the capital of the state is today a small town far from being unpleasant, but of which only a few streets or old buildings (dating from the 18th or 19th centuries) remain. The surrounding area was an important production center for the sugar and textile industry, as evidenced by the many haciendas - ruined or not - located in its vicinity (including the beautiful hacienda of Bellavista). Nevertheless, you may want to pass through if you want to reach the Pacific coast from the city of Guadalajara; it is also a mandatory stop on the way to the beautiful Laguna de Santa Maria del Oro
