In Jalisco, it is said that there are three representations of the Virgin, each referring to a stage of life: the Virgin Child, the pregnant Virgin and the mother virgin of Talpa. This beautiful mountain village is most famous as a pilgrimage place for the miraculous Virgin that one of its two churches jealously guards. Throughout the year, pilgrims arrive there by walking from Guadalajara or Ameca, crossing the Sierra Mountains on a journey of several days. But they are mostly trying to arrive on March 19, the day of the most important celebrations.A detour through the centre of the village is of course indispensable, since above all we admire the old portales, supported by wooden pillars. There are a lot of small candy shops, including the dulce shoot, and there is also a lot of crafts based on chitle (tree that we shoot le, with which we manufacture gum). For nature fanatics, the surrounding area also has small wonders: coffee plantations to visit, forests and viewpoints from the heights of Sierra, waterfalls. The visit of Maple de Maple (unique in Latin America, since this tree is known mainly in Canada) in the early morning is a fantastic excursion, especially in December when the leaves take various tones. Two small agencies with a booth on the square allow you to discover the surroundings, during excursions ranging from two hours to a full day. For lunch, an indispensable detour to taste the birria of the market and, if you need to spend it at night, you can know that the village has more than 50 hotels for pilgrims; As it is not far from Mascota, it is better to spend the night there and get there for the day.
