About 65 km from Shahrisbaz, Langar is a small mountain village perched above the river of the same name. The road to Langar, past Kyzyl Tepa, is beautiful. One goes up gradually, while skirting the river and the canyons which it digs in the ochre ground. Little by little, we leave behind us modern Uzbekistan and its senseless reconstructions. Once there, we discover a rhythm and a way of life that hasn't changed much for centuries. Of course, gradually the tin roofs are replacing the adobe roofs but the houses are still red, the colour of the earth bleeding all around. The village lives from its animals: each family shares its sheep, cows and goats and sends one of its own in turn to the mountains to guard the pastures and herds. Every evening, before the sun sets, the animals find their way back to the stable or sheepfold. The village is known for its mosque and mausoleum, both beautifully preserved and full of life. Also, it is possible to make 2-3 day or 4-5 hour hikes in the surrounding mountains. Finally, don't forget to go out at night to see a sky so starry and black that you would almost feel dizzy.
