Among the many Buddhist ruins in the countryside around Paharpur, that of Ahlud Vihara is one of the most impressive. This former monastery is 30 m wide and 7 m high. Research has shown that it dates from the same period as Somapura. Unfortunately, the government has not undertaken any major conservation measures, and bricks litter the soil around the ruins.
