SHASHI LODGE
This impressive rajbari on the European lines was built in 1905 by the Maharaja Surya Kanta in search of a new palace after the complete collapse of the Rank Mahal (Crystal Palace) during the earthquake of 1897. In a relatively good state of conservation, it now houses a training centre for teachers. The rajbari does not visit, but you can ask the guardian to take a look at the central fountain, a half naked nympe doing his toilet. The maharaja Surya Kanta died before the end of the work and it was his son Shashi who completed them.
