South Manitou and North Manitou Islands are located off Lake Michigan and are part of the park's protected area.
Located offshore in Lake Michigan, they are part of the park's protected area and can only be reached by ferry from Leland Harbor. The crossing time is approximately 1.5 hours each way. There are also three primitive campsites on South Manitou Island and one on North Manitou (backcountry camping is also permitted on North Manitou). Be sure to ask about what you need to bring for camping on the islands, as services are limited.
