Running along the southern shore of Lake Superior for nearly 65 km, between the communities of Munising to the southwest and Grand Marais to the northeast, this magnificent protected area is a popular tourist destination. It was the country's first National Lakeshore, established in 1966, and takes its name from the colourful cliffs that line the lake, the main attraction of the area. The beautiful waterfalls are not to be missed either. From Munising, a ferry connects to Grand Island, a virtually uninhabited island that is ideal for outdoor activities.
