A large village located in the far north of the Sierra Madre Orientale, Santiago is only 40 kilometres from the centre of Monterrey. It is a privileged weekend destination for the city's inhabitants, who come to recharge their batteries by discovering waterfalls, breathtaking panoramic views and birds of a thousand colours that run through the region: it is one of the gateways to the Parque Nacional Cumbres de Monterrey, whose small village of Potrero Redondo is the base for exploring the region's canyons. In addition to hiking, the surroundings offer many (and unique) opportunities for extreme sports: climbing, canyoning, bungee jumping, etc. The village itself has an interesting 18th, 19th and 20th century architecture, which will be discovered around Plaza Ocampo. The baroque Santiago Apóstol church is one of the most interesting religious monuments in the far north of the country.
