Although largely destroyed by fire in 1965, the town of Gerze has risen from its ashes and today offers a very pleasant setting for a short stopover on the way to Trabzon. You should try the seafood ( hamsi, anchovies from the Black Sea, are a must) or the local specialty, the nokul, a kind of puff pastry rolled and filled with cheese or meat as well as simits with blackberry syrup. Another delight for the eyes this time: the sunset from the heights. In the summer, you can swim and relax on the beautiful beaches surrounding the city that extends into the sea.
