BLUE LAGOON
Blue Lagoon is the best snorkeling spot on the island with its varied, extensive and colorful corals.
It's one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots on the island, yet less well known than Mnemba and Safari Blue or Pungume, and little damaged by boats. But why? Firstly, because the fishermen (who don't speak English) throw ink away from the reefs further north, and tourists splash around without understanding where to swim. Many return disappointed, as they didn't see much. Swim away to the north. The reefs are varied and colorful, creating deep corridors of coral rippling in the currents, with many fish swimming around in tight schools. There are three stops on this tour (be careful when negotiating, make sure we'll take you to all three!): the coral reef, then another stop in shallow water where there's a colony of huge indigo and orange starfish (magnificent!). Time for photos before returning them to the water (beware of sea urchins in this area). Taking them in your hands is harmless, for them as well as for you, but be delicate and don't leave them in the open air for more than a few minutes, resting them flat. Then there's a third stop on a sandbank, where you can take your time splashing around and taking photos. If you like, you can combine the tour with a seafood barbecue on the beach or lunch at The Rocks, as the boat departure point is right in front of the famous restaurant. This is a great opportunity to take at least one photo when you return from the tour at high tide!
