Travel back in time as you explore restored semi-troglodytic houses, witnesses to Graufthal's past.
This area was used as warehouses in the Middle Ages, and then as dwellings after the ravages of the Thirty Years' War. In the 17th century, masonry work transformed these shelters into dwellings, which were still occupied in the early 20th century, and in one case until 1958! A visit to these houses will give you an idea of the harsh living conditions endured by their occupants at the time. These three semi-troglodytic houses, clinging to the pink sandstone wall, have been restored and revived in color. Two of them have been refurnished, while the other houses an exhibition.
