ZAIRE VESSEL
Boat in the middle of a rotunda at the end of the Restinga de Lobito, a cultural-historical monument now used as a library.
On November 7, 1961, this boat, set up in the middle of a rotunda at the end of Lobito's Restinga, carried the former president of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, and other nationalists to Congo Leopoldville (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), where they joined the Angolan Liberation Army (ELPA) to fight for their country's independence. Over a period of 7 days, they crossed the Zaire River, for which the boat is named. This cultural-historical monument served as a library until 2017. It has since been abandoned.
