PARQUE NACIONAL DA MUPA
Mupa National Park, invaded by local populations.
Originally created to protect a subspecies of giraffe, the giraffa camelopardalis angolensis, the park was declared a national park on December 26, 1964, under Portuguese colonial rule. Covering an area of 6,600 km2, it is still home to giraffes, zebras, elephants and a few rare hyenas, leopards and lions. It is also renowned for its rich birdlife. However, local populations have invaded the national park and are working in livestock and agriculture, threatening to destroy the remaining biodiversity.
