MISSÃO DA MUPA
One of the first Catholic missions in Kunene province, built between 1883 and 1923.
Construction of the mission is said to have taken 40 years, from 1883 to 1923. A father from Alsace, along with two other missionaries, created the first Catholic mission in the Ambos community, a Bantu people. The King of Ondjiva accepted the establishment of this mission. But when he died, the founding father was assassinated and the two missionaries fled. They are said to have spent 40 years wandering before settling in 1923 on the site of today's mission in Mupa. Every year in July, a procession reaches the mountain dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Carmo.
