CRISTO REI
Architectural monument 14 m high, at 2,130 m above sea level in the Cordillera de Chela, offering an excursion with a view of the city.
Inspired by Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer, this 14-metre-high statue, the only one of its kind in Angola, opens its arms to the city, 2,130 metres above sea level on the Chela mountain range. This same mountain range is said to have been the inspiration for the Lubango founding community, mainly from the island of Madeira. Made of white marble, Cristo Rei was built by the Portuguese and completed in 1957. From up here, there are magnificent views over the city. Next door, the majestic letters of Lubango are set into the hillside like Hollywood.
