HUMPATA
Humpata is the country's leading producer and exporter of strawberries to the major cities of Lubango, Huambo, Benguela and Luanda.
Around 30 kilometers south of Lubango, this township of over 90,000 inhabitants lies at an altitude of almost 2,000 m on the southern western edge of the Central Plateau. In the 1870s, Boers settled here and trained the inhabitants in agriculture. Today, the commune is famous for its strawberries, which are exported to the major cities of Lubango, Huambo, Benguela and Luanda. As the country's leading producer, Humpata aims to increase its production in order to reduce imports from neighboring countries, particularly South Africa.
