ILHA DO CABO
Also known as Ilha de Luanda, this narrow tongue of land, some 7 km long, naturally separates the capital from the Atlantic Ocean, forming the Bay of Luanda. It is linked to the capital by an isthmus at the level of the Saint-Michel fortress, which is sometimes blocked to traffic. On the ocean side, you'll find golden beaches, restaurants with private beaches, hotels with sea views, chic bars and trendy nightclubs. It's a popular place for locals and expatriates alike to have a good time. People come here to sunbathe, listen to music, swim, practice water sports and enjoy aperitifs with friends. Waterfront restaurants offer delicious local cuisine, freshly caught fish and seafood as well as international dishes. Prices here are higher than in some establishments in the heart of the capital, but the setting is undoubtedly much more charming. In summer, the beaches are crowded from morning to night, while during the cacimbo (wintering) season, the beaches are quieter. Nevertheless, the more courageous can enjoy a swim during this season, with the water averaging 20ºC. Ilha do Cabo is also renowned for its lively nightlife, offering a variety of bars and discos, frequented by the local jet set and expatriates alike. If you're in the mood to party, this is the place to be!
