Facing the bay, this 17th-century church was built at the request of the governor of Angola, André Vital de Negreiros, who wished to thank God for having survived a shipwreck during a voyage. It is adorned with superb azulejos depicting various scenes from life, including the battle of Ambuíla, where Kongo king Antoine1er was beheaded. His head is said to have been buried in the church. Facing the choir, note the sculpture of the Black Saint, Iphigenia, who protects against fire.
