Bahuaja-Sonene National Park protects an eco-region called Yungas del Perú. The yungas are forests that are located on the eastern slopes of the Andes. It is a transition zone between the high mountains and the deep forests. These yungas have characteristics related to the tropical climate. The park contains about 20,000 species of plants, at least 600 species of birds, 174 species of mammals and 100 species of reptiles. The lucky ones will be able to meet extremely rare animals: the maned wolf, the giant otter, the spectacled bear or the black caiman Its isolation makes it a little explored place: less than 500 tourists per year.
