This superb Art Deco building is the only skyscraper Meridian has ever seen. Built in 1929, shortly before the collapse of the stock market, it was only completed thanks to the financial funds of the Threefoot family, of Jewish-German origin and patron of the city in the 1930s. The 16-storey building was phased out in the 1990s and was listed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2010. In 2015, the Marriott hotel group acquired the building in order to transform it into a 120-room hotel. The purchase was finalized in March 2016.
