The creator of the Muppets, Jim Henson, was born in Greenville and grew up in Stoneville, 2 miles west of Leland. He spent hours playing on the banks of Deer Creek, which he said inspired the character of Kermit the frog. This famous frog was created in 1955 but reached glory only in 1976, with the Muppets Show. Today you can visit Kermit's birthplace and learn more about Jim Henson and his other creations, such as Fraggle Rock. The museum is also a visitor reception centre.
