Until the State legalizes gambling in the 1990 s, Tunica was, one of the poorest cities in the United States. Since the construction of a dozen casinos and a recreation area, it attracts many visitors, many of whom come from Memphis only 40 miles north. Except for a cruise on the Mississippi, there is little interest if you are not passionate about the game or you don't want to sleep in one of the 6 000 hotel rooms now available. The Gateway to the Blues Visitors Center, on the Blues route, located at the corner of Kirby Road and Highway 61, 12 miles north of the city, can be stopped. Set in a former deposit of the railway, it has an exceptional charm. Closer to Tunica, and always on the route of Highway 61, you will probably be attracted by the impressive Arena & Expo Center complex that occupies the landscape 3 miles north of the city. It has very little tourist interest, however, except in some rodeos or cattle sales that are organized there. On the other hand, you can visit the Tunica Museum opposite.
