East of Edmonton, you'll drive through Elk Island National Park, home to more than 3,000 mammals, including elk and bison, which, thanks to the park, still exist today. Far from the visual pollution of the cities, this is a great place to observe the starry sky and the Northern Lights, if you are lucky. A hiker's paradise, take full advantage of the atmosphere by camping for a night in the park by the light of the stars. Just east of the park, 50 km from Edmonton, you can visit the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village: this recreation of the village of the first immigrants from Ukraine is amazingly realistic.
