1 km from the entrance to Monteverde reserve, he is one of the closest. Good price for this large hotel. A fantastic view from the large restaurant (El Higerón) with a wide choice of dishes. Family home. Possible transfer from San José.

One of my best ever hiking experiences. I went early in the morning and was alone on the trail, making it easier to see all kinds of birds (keelbilled toucan), blue Morpho butterflies casually crossing the trail, amazing fig trees and views. Seems like a sincerely well-loved family run place. I couldn't believe I could walk to such a gem of a spot.

What a wonderfully serene place to spend a day or three.

I found the sanctuary via a last minute AirBNB booking, and thoroughly enjoyed my two night stay, as well as taking the guided natural history tour with Marvin. Hiking boots are strongly recommended, these are mountain trails, not paved sidewalks, but that should be common sense.

Familia Salazar was very welcoming, and managed to make this very shy solo tourist feel right at home.
