Former abbey church recreated, transformed into a hotel and now a stage ready to receive artists in Ghent

In the 7thcentury , St. Amand of Ghent founded the Abbey of St. Bavo to convert the inhabitants of Ganda. Centuries later, Charles V had most of the original buildings demolished to build the famous Spanjaardkasteel (Spanish Castle) in 1539. Recently, the old abbey church has been completely recreated: no more stone, but greenery. Charming 5 m-high columns recall the vanished church. Where the hotel once stood, a concrete podium now stands ready to welcome artists
