STEAM (BREWERY)
Steam brewery of Pipaix producing local beers and many vintages with pictorial names and labels
A typical example of a farm-brewery, the Pipaix steam brewery dates back to 1785. Jean-Louis Dits and his wife, teachers in their thirties and passionate about local products, took over the business in 1983, a few years after Gaston Biset, in his old age, hung up his boots. After several months of effort, the first brew miraculously comes out of the venerable vats. Jean-Louis then brews "à l'ancienne" (steamed, therefore...) local beers, such as the venerable Saison Pipaix, of which he increases the percentage of alcohol. Alongside this traditional beer, Jean-Louis Dits offers many cuvées with colourful names and labels often illustrated by his friend Louis-Michel Carpentier, the author of the comic strip that tells the truculent adventures of the Brussels bistro owner Le Poje. And in 1992, Vapeur Cochonne, produced in a modern way, became its reference product, with Belgian humour as a bonus. Also available in 33 cl "Cochonnette", this dark amber of 9% alc. vol. now represents the largest part of the production. Next to it, we find the Saison de Pipaix (blonde, dry, spicy, 6%), the Vapeur en Folie (strong blonde, 8%). All high-fermentation, of course. But Jean-Louis regularly offers more surprising brews in limited quantities, such as pumpkin, strawberry or chestnut beer (Vapeur de Châtaigne, Vapeur de Potiblonde, Vapeur de Fraise). He also prepared a Kiss Steamer with a lip tag..
